FAQs

I’m having marriage problems but I’m not sure I want a divorce

We are happy to see you for an Initial Fixed Fee Consultation.

We will explain what your legal rights and options are as well as what it may cost to take further legal advice.

Do I have to sort all the issues out before I can get a divorce?

People often believe:

They cannot get divorced until they have sorted out all the issues regarding their finances and/or the children

That getting divorce automatically finalises financial matters.

These assumptions are both incorrect.

How do you deal with financial settlements and disputes about children?

We are used to dealing with complex and sensitive cases and will advise you on all the legal channels available to you.  If your case is suitable for mediation and you wish to try and settle matters in this way, we will assist you in finding the best mediator suited to you and will continue to advise you along the way.  If mediation is not appropriate we will negotiate matters on your behalf or if court proceedings are issued, we will assist and advise you in connection with all court documentation.

What if my spouse and I have reached a financial agreement but we need solicitors to handle the paperwork?

It is very important that financial agreements (whether verbal or written) are recorded in either a Consent Order or a Deed of Separation.  We undertake this sort of work on a time recorded basis and would be pleased to provide you with an estimate of our charges upon request.

We usually also undertake conveyancing work where necessary to implement an agreement on a fixed fee basis.  Please contact us to discuss fees.

What geographical areas do you cover?

Due to our location we deal with a number of divorce and family matters in Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and Brentwood however we act for many clients in the remainder of Essex and London. Due to our international links via the Laworld network we can assist with a divorce which may have a multi jurisdictional element for example if you own foreign assets.

I work and find it difficult to see you during normal working hours, when can I see you?

We will try our best to accommodate you with early or late appointments by arrangement.  Please telephone us on 01708 757575 to discuss.

What do I need to bring with me at the Initial Fixed Fee Consultation?

1. Original marriage certificate

2. Two forms of identity, one of which must be a photo ID (valid passport and/or driving licence) and another with your name and current address (utility bill or bank statement)

3. Initial payment

Okay, I’ve seen you and I want to continue, what do I do next?

Depending on your needs, you can come in for a more comprehensive consultation or a letter may be written to you explaining what the next steps are.
